Every great film starts with a producer who took a chance on bringing it to life. Most people think that a great film begins in the director’s chair. This is a common misconception. It actually starts in the office of a producer. Producers are responsible for lighting the spark. That spark transforms an idea into massive production. It includes crew, screenwriters, visual effects artists, actors, and actresses. Their work usually takes place behind the curtain and a few may know their names. But, their impact is nothing short of a blockbuster.

Ryan Kavanaugh

Ryan Kavanaugh was the founder and CEO of Relativity Media. He produced, distributed, and structured financing for more than 200 motion pictures. Some of these are The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Hancock, Ghost Rider, and Evan Almighty. The Kingdom, American Gangster, The Taking of Pelham 123, and The Other Boleyn Girl are also some of his films. All these generated over $17 billion in worldwide box-office revenue. These films earned a total of 60 Oscar nominations. He received several awards and honors. These include Variety’s Showman of the Year in 2011. And also, the Leadership Award from The Hollywood Reporter in 2010. He was also honored with the Hollywood Producer of the Year award in 2009. He was also the recipient of the Hollywood Humanitarian Award. This was from the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Board of Governors. The Anti-Defamation League also gave him the Entertainment Industry Award in 2011. Ryan Kavanaugh also served as chairman of the board for The Art of Elysium. It is an organization encouraging artists to donate their time and talents. It is for children battling serious medical conditions.  He was also dedicated to helping inner-city youth.

Irvin Winkler

His career as a producer, director, and writer surround popular and influential movies. This affected contemporary culture. His films include true screen classics that garnered 12 Academy Awards. His films also gained 52 Oscar nominations.  Among his many nominations were five Best Picture nominations. He produced the tale of underdog sports triumph, Rocky. It forged one of the most recognizable movie characters and themes on a global scale. He also produced the iconic gangster tale, Goodfellas, and the recent film, The Wolf of Wall Street. He was also honored with the David O. Selznick Achievement Award. This was from The Producers Guild of America that recognized his lifetime body of work. The American Cinematheque held a three-day retrospective honoring Winkler in December 2016. It showcased works like Goodfellas and Raging Bull. Winkler sees his success in a unique way. It has come from his constant instinctual draw to fresh and current subjects. And visionary talents, too. Even though those are controversial.

Kathleen Kennedy

She is one of the most sought-after executives in Hollywood. Kathleen Kennedy has more than 60 films and 120 Academy Award nominations. She started out as the personal secretary to director Steven Spielberg. Some of her films include Jurassic Park, Twister, and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. More of her films are Schindler’s List, War of the Worlds, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. She became co-chair of Lucasfilm Ltd. alongside George Lucas. She then became the new president of Lucasfilm with its sale to Disney. As such, she was responsible for the revived Star Wars franchise. She co-founded Amblin Entertainment with Spielberg and Frank Marshall in 1981. Frank Marshall became her husband. She then founded The Kennedy/Marshall Company with her husband in 1993.
